Laminar Flow Cabinet Presentation - January 2018

East Grinstead Lions are pleased to announce that the Laminar Flow Cabinet has now been installed at QVH. This followed a donation of £4000 from the club and a contribution of £1000 from Chichesters Lions Sight Fund. One of the pictures shows members of the Lions Club at the presentation; Consultant Damian Lake, Ron Millen, Dr Nigel Jordan, Richard Parr, Jim Miller, Brian Richens and Keith Pratt.

Dr Jordan at the QVH states that it is with great thanks that we have received the Laminar Flow Cabinet, which you kindly raised the money and agreed to pay for. It has now been installed in our cleanroom ready for use in the preparation of a specific type of corneal transplant called a DMEK graft. This will greatly reduce the time currently taken in our operating theatres to prepare them and enable additional operations to be performed. The next step is to fully train our technicians in the preparation of the grafts and submit a process change document to our regulators giving notice that we are implementing a new procedure. I am hopeful that the first patients will be treated with grafts prepared in the Lions Laminar Flow Cabinet early in 2018. The have photographs show it in situ in our cleanroom. Many thanks from the Eye Bank and Corneo Plastic Unit for your continued support of our services. A copy of the Crawley News Article can be viewed by CLICKING HERE.

Senior Citizens Party - February 2018

The Annual Senior Citizens Party, which has been running for over 40 years, is the first major charitable event to be held this year and was attended by over 140 senior citizens from the surrounding district. The event is funded by the local community who purchase raffle tickets in the Lions Christmas Draw.    They were treated to a show provided by the Copthorne Players (including an impomptu song and dance routine by the Mayor) and music from the East Grinstead Ukulele Band which was followed by tea, sandwiches and cakes galore, consumed whilst they were treated to more music provided by the Hatch Jazz Septet.     We were pleased to welcome the Mayor of East Grinstead Cllr. Mrs Julie Mockford who presented prizes to several lucky winners. The Mayor was attended by the Lion President Lion Mike Barty and MC Lion Ron Millen.

Swimathon March 2018

This years Swimathon took place at The Kings Centre, kindly sponsored by McDonalds represented by Joe Yaghmoorali.  Teams from Sackville School, Bloomin Arts, 1st East Grinstead Dolphin Troop and Forest Row School were represented and the level of competition to complete the most laps in the time allowed was intense. Over 600 laps were swum and over £1500.00 was raised from sponsorship, shared between the teams competing and the Lions Club. The permission of the teachers, staff and parents was sought before capturing these images. Thank you to all who took part.

Bloomin Arts March 2018

Two members of the Clubs Community Services Team attended a special show before an audience at Bloomin Arts (a charity we support) premises near Lingfield. They were delighted to see Five Dance routines and a Play based upon Shakespeare's Antony & Cleopatra. This was followed by a raffle and then an opportunity to have tea and cake. The permission of the Staff and Parents was sought before capturing these images. A great experience. For more details about their work go to
