We are pleased to provide on this page a gallery of pictures from a selection of the many events that we will have hosted, sponsored or attended during 2019.   This section of the website will be updated as events take place.   We hope that it shows a representative selection of event photographs.   To look at pictures from the past few years we have included an archive for reference at the foot of this page.  Most of the pictures have been taken by Lion Keith Pratt.

   

50th Anniversary Shield Presentation - January 2019 

The picture shows the Town Mayor Rex Whittaker presenting the Lions President Lion Ron Millen with a commenative shield to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Clubs formation and recent coverage in the local paper showing the activities of the club over the past year.         

   

Senior Citizens Party - January 2019

Once again the Lions Club hosted this annual event to entertain and provide party food and cheer to some of the senior residents of East Grinstead. This year as in previous years the attendance was high. The pictures show some of the entertainers and helpers and views of those attending. 

   

May Fair - 6th May 2019

A bright but chilly start to the Fair but with blue sky and a little sun. Even as it clouded over in the afternoon the crowds braved the chill and stall holders wrapped up warm. There were a wide variety of stalls and rides for the children and a packed programme, detailed in the Programme sponsored by Martell's, throughout the day. The Mayor Rex Whittaker opened the event and the East Grinstead Concert Band struck up followed by the East Grinstead Ukuleles. Hipsinc gave us a display of Belly Dancing followed by music from inChoir, Urban City Dance, Singsters, Mr Bonx and Vegas Nights. We then had the crowning of the new May Queen Holly Carr aged 8 years, the handing over of cheques and shields to the successful participants of our recent Swimathon, which was sponsored by McDonald's and the lucky winners of the 200 Club Star Draw. This was followed by the Ariel Academy Singers, Nadia & Peter and the TS Resolution Marching Band. The pictures show a variety of shots of the event including the childrens entertainment provided by David outside Sackville College, the new Lions Transport for attending such events and our programme sellers from the Rotary Club.

   

Town Event - 3rd June 2019

The Club was present with a refreshments and Candy Floss Stall at the first of the East Grinstead Town Event held in the grounds of East Court. There were a variety of stalls offereing refreshment whilst those attending sta in the sunshine and enjoyed the various acts performing on stage. Thanks to the generousity of the public we made £284 on the teas and cakes and £240 on the candy floss.

   

Handover Social - 30th June 2019

A moving lunch starting in four houses was arranged for the handover to the Preseident for the coming Lions Year. It was also an opportunity to award the Melvin Jones Fellowship to Harry Horsburgh for his service to the community.

   


Donkey Derby - 28th July 2019

Another successful Donkey Derby, our 7th, was held on King George's Field and the full range of scrolling pictures show a wide variety of the activities that took place, including of course the donkey races with Little Brook Equestrian providing the Jockeys, Mickaela Stewart the overall race winner, J&H Friend for removals, Portland Vets for running the Fun Dog Show and providing the winners rosettes, a spectacular display of bubbles provided by Mujishan's Circus of Bubbles, a display by The Crawley Bobby Dazzlers, Places for People Leisure Ltd for the use of their facilities, EG Rotary Clubs for their support, Good & Green for the Race Card, the EG Town Mayor Cllr Danny Favor for opening the event together with our May Queen Holly Carr and of course our commentator Neil Munday from SuZy Radio. The weather held and the sun came out to shine later in the afternoon. It looks like we made over £3947.00 all to be used for local good causes.  We thank all the stall holders and charity volunteers who supported us including Lions Club's from the surrounding districts and the St John's Ambulance Team. 

   

Dorking Lions Carnival - 1st September 2019

East Grinstead Lions were represented at the Horley Lions Carnival with our Book Sales stand.. 

   

East Grinstead 10k Run - 29th September 2019

East Grinstead Lions supported the annual 10k run with water and supplies. The weather was not good and shows our team at the start sheltering from the rain.

   

Glasses Collection and Sorting - October 2019

For many years the club has been collecting glasses from the spectacles shops and surgeries in the town and these are delivered to Chichester Lions Club and sorted prior to being sent overseas. The picture shows just how many glasses each month or so are processed with our Lions helping.

   

Santa comes to East Grinstead - December 2019

The pictures show the arrival of Santa at his grotto in East Grinstead together with the Town Mayor and the May Queen.

   

Card Swop and Presentations - December 2019

The picture shows the Lions enjoying lunch at the swopping of Christmas cards in December. The occasion also marked the presentation of chevrons marking the number of years Lion members have been a part of East Grinstead Lions Club. They were; Lion Don 50 years, Lions Jim 30 years and Lion Roddy 20 years. 

   

Raffle for raising funds for the Senior Citizens Party in January

The Draw took place in the foyer of Waitrose who both provided one of the main prizes and also allowed the Lions to sell the tickets outside the store over the past two weeks. Over 2800 tickets were sold raising £2800.00 and the draw was undertaken by representatives of Waitrose assisted by the Lions President Ron Millen and Ian Forbes. The prize winners are now being contacted and a list of the winning ticket numbers will be displayed on the Fund Raising Page.
